Maria Ramos appointed group chair of Standard Chartered

Subject to regulatory approval she will succeed José Viñals who expects to retire from the Board in May.

Ramos joined the Standard Chartered Board in 2021 as independent non-executive director. She said that she was “honoured to take on the role” and that she looked forward to delivering “the next phase of the Group’s strategy”. According to the FT this is the first part of a leadership transition at the bank as Ramos “is likely to oversee the search for a new chief executive as Bill Winters nears a decade in the post.”
