CoinFund president Christopher Perkins is to join the CFTC’s Global Markets Advisory Committee (GMAC). He will be the first member to come from a crypto investing and advisory background.

Perkins joins 35 other members of a body that assists the Commission in its regulatory work on the global markets, and tweeted that he was “humbled” to be asked to serve.

“Given the incredible challenges of the current macroeconomic and geopolitical environment, it is more critical than ever to have the input and expertise of these executive leaders as a resource for the Commission”, said CFTC Commissioner Caroline D Pham. “I am energized about the relaunch of the GMAC and the work program we will tackle as we develop potential solutions to the most significant current and emerging issues in global markets.”

“I am pleased to welcome the GMAC members and thank them for their willingness to serve and support these important initiatives,” she added.

The committee’s mandate is to assist and advise the Commission:

  • on issues that affect the integrity and competitiveness of US markets and US firms engaged in global business, including the regulatory challenges of a global marketplace that reflects the increasing interconnectedness of markets and the multinational nature of business;
  • to help determine how it can avoid unnecessary regulatory or operational impediments to global business while still preserving core protections for customers and other market participants;
  • to assess the impact on US markets and firms of the Commission’s international efforts and the initiatives of foreign regulators and market authorities;
  • to identify methods to improve both domestic and international regulatory structures while continuing to allow US markets and firms to remain competitive in the global market. That includes regulating futures, swaps, options, and derivatives markets, and intermediaries.

The committee consists of new and returning GMAC members, including:
